A guide to Selling Tea Sets at Auction

What's My Tea Set Worth?

Each week we receive enquiries from customers all over the UK looking to sell their tea sets.

While tea sets were used extensively in past times - with many being purchased at great expense, and taking pride of place whilst entertaining guests - unfortunately there aren't many sets that are sought-after by buyers today.

There are however, certain lines of teaware that can command hundreds of pounds at auction.

We are currently seeing demand for:

  • Aynsley - butterfly, Orchard Gold
  • Shelley/Foley
  • Art Deco styles including Clarice Cliff and Carlton Ware
  • Royal Copenhagen
  • Herend
  • Minton
  • Royal Albert Old Country Roses
  • Wedgwood premium lines

With collectable tea sets, condition can really make a difference to the value. Things like crazing (tiny cracks in the glaze), staining, cracks and chips can really detract from the prices people are willing to pay at auction.  Items such as teapots, which were frequently used and prone to damage, often hold the greatest value in a collection.

Collectable sets don't have to be complete. Depending on their value, just a few pieces may be saleable at auction.

If you're interested in selling your pieces with us, please email photographs to [email protected] along with your contact details, and our team will get back to you with advice.
