Family archive of the military career of Warrant officer 2nd class, 26167/4435641 J.W. Ritson 1st Battalion Durham Light Infantry. (Born 26/6/1900) From his hand written Diary, it is possible to follow his service history from the day of enlistment, 23/01/1916, through to a course in Newcastle on 5th January 1931. The book also contains records of home and abroad postings, promotions and appointments, leave, courses, medical history, employments, and certificates. There are two photograph albums showing travel, both home and abroad. Places include Sierra Leone, Calcutta, Dardanelles, Poland, Egypt etc. Also included in the collection is a large quantity of military badges, Masonic medals, medal ribbons, birth and marriage certificates of family members. Medals awarded. 1914-1918 War Medal, Victory Medal, India General Medal with Afghanistan North West Frontier 1919 clasp, Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, with miniatures. 1939-1945 Defence Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal, for Meritorious Service Medal, and Territorial Decoration, George V1 dated 1949.
