AUCTION RESULTS: Treasures from an East Yorkshire house clearance fetch over £70,000 at auction

An astonishing collection dozens of gold coins, rare stamps, and hundreds of moth specimens made over £70,000 when they went under the hammer at Ryedale Auctioneers’ Kirkbymoorside salerooms recently.

Auctioneer and owner of Ryedale Auctioneers Angus Ashworth described the finds as a ‘treasure trove’ and was astonished when he visited the property to evaluate the collection, which was filmed for an upcoming episode of television series The Yorkshire Auction House.

The items belonged to a keen collector who had sadly passed away and had left the items to their family.

The Yorkshire Auction House follows Angus and his team as they travel the country to help people who have a house to clear or are downsizing, to sell items at auction and create space.

Top selling lots included:
Geo.IV 1823 gold sovereign - SOLD for £2950 + buyer's premium
Queen Victoria 1893 gold £5 - SOLD for £2850 + buyer's premium
Victoria orange £5 stamp (SG 38) with Tunbridge Wells post mark - SOLD for £800 + premium

Auctioneer Angus added, ‘of course this is a great result but it’s not just about the money - it’s fantastic to see someone’s collection so well received. They obviously put a lot of time and effort into their collecting over the years, and I think even the family were surprised to see the scale of it.’

The episode is set to air on Really channel in Spring 2023.
