The collection will be sold at Ryedale Auctioneers in Kirkbymoorside Friday 11th April.
The racecourse decided to have a clear out after downsizing their museum collection.
Some of the unique items going under the auctioneer's gavel include:
Duke of Westminster racing colours worn by famous 19th-century jockey Fred Archer.
Fred Archer won the Epsom Derby of 1886 riding the Duke of Westminster's horse 'Ormonde' wearing this yellow silk jacket.
Auction estimate £3,000-£5,000.
- At over 5 foot 8 inches, Fred Archer (1857 – 1886), was unusually tall for a jockey, but this didn't stop him notching up 2,747 wins during his career, and he is considered one of the best flat-racing jockeys of all time. Keeping his weight low at such a height unfortunately meant his health suffered, and he died aged 29.
- Ormonde was an undefeated English Thoroughbred racehorse, and considered to be one of the greatest ever racehorses.
Also included in the sale are a pair of Fred Archer's riding boots, auction estimate £500-£800.
'There are some condition issues with the jacket and boots, but we anticipate a lot of interest in these lots as they are being sold with good provenance.' Said Ryedale Auctioneers' auctioneer and owner Angus Ashworth.
'The jacket in particular will bring a lot of interest. It truly is unique piece of horse racing history, having being worn for England's most prestigious race, on a very famous racehorse with a very famous owner, by a very famous jockey.'
Other items in the sale include:
Lester Piggot's racing silks, worn when winning the 1957 Epsom Derby on the horse 'Crepello', estimated to fetch between £2,000 and £4,000.
A horse's tail, purportedly from the Derby and Gold Cup-winning racehorse Blue Gown (1865 – 1880). Blue Gown died whilst travelling to America by ship after being injured during rough seas, its destination being a Kentucky stud farm. The horse's carcass was thrown overboard, but the captain reportedly preserved the tail.
